Web Graphic Tips

JPG Use JPG for photos, compress them.
Use GIF format for clipart and reduce number of colors
resolution Use 72 Dots Per Inch and no more.
alternate text Use Alt= to describe the image (it may not load).
Specify dimensions Use Width= and Height= to make pages faster.
Caching Re-use the same graphics on many pages (they will be cached).
small size Aim for a size of 10KB or less and limit a page to 6 new pictures.
Flowing text Use Align= to flow text around image.
no dancing baloneys Resist distracting animated GIFs.
Inserting Graphics: Some sample photographs, backgrounds, icons, and clipart.

Creating Graphics: A Scanner converts printed matter into computer bits. A Digital Camera goes direct to the computer, eliminating film, developing, and scanning.

Editing Graphics: Install an editor/viewer to work with images. Learn to crop pictures to the interesting part. Thumbnails: Resize to smaller image (250-300 pixels wide for most things) and link to full image. Use Windows Explorer to check size in bytes.
