Before there was Doom, before there was PacMan, before there was Star Wars, there was Adventure, the first, text-based role-playing game. Find Adventure on the club menu and start playing. Somewhere nearby is a colossal cave. Your job is to enter the cave, solve the puzzles and collect the treasures. See how many points you can get in 20 minutes.

Hints:

  • Type commands with an action verb and an object noun, such as take keys. Sometimes you only need one word, such as down to "go down". Don't forget to press Enter.
  • Adventure only looks at the first 5 letters of each word, so use ne for "northeast".
  • Type inven to check your "inventory".
  • If you get stuck, type help for a few tips, such as Cave passages and forest paths turn a lot, so leaving one place heading north doesn't guarantee entering the next from the south.
  • An unusual animal will drive away the snake.
  • Pick up everything you find--you will probably need it later. Although some objects can cause temporary dificulties while you are holding them.
  • You may want to draw a map to keep from getting lost.
  • Type info for information on scoring, etc.
  • You can play Adventure on the Internet at a very ingenious web site.
  • Type quit when you are done.
