ANGUILLA

Next week will be a special week of tennis in Anguilla. Children participating in the Tennis Academy will receive some excellent coaching opportunities. Four tennis players from the Gardner-Webb University at Boiling Springs will be in Anguilla to assist Mitchelle Lake and Shawn Romney, attending the same university, with coaching at the academy.

Coaching sessions for the week will be held at Malliouhana Hotel and Carimar Beach Club and there will be ten coaches assisting on the five courts there. This will be a great opportunity for the nearly two hundred youngsters attending the sessions. The Government of Anguilla is to provide a school bus to transport the children to the court for the morning sessions from 9.00 a.m. 12 noon.

Anguillians Damien Hughes and Damien Brooks are coaches for the week as well as the tennis pro from Cap Juluca Hotel, Elizabeth Gibson and Corey Bowlin, tennis pro at Malliouhana Hotel. In the afternoons the coaches will be presenting exhibition matches for parents and children to watch. Marc Grenouilleau from Marigot, St Martin will also take part in some of the exhibition matches. He is the 1996 Over 35 champion from Guadeloupe, who has an interest in the academy and is aiming to start teaching tennis in the schools in French and Dutch St Martin. Murray Wellington from Perth, Australia is the number one player from Gardner-Webb and received the most valuable player award for the spring tennis season of 1998. Jason Allen, Brad Burgess and Timothy Parker are the other visitors from the University who will be in Anguilla for the week.

The exhibition matches will take place at Malliouhana Hotel on 22 July, Cap Juluca Hotel on 23 July, Sonesta Beach Resort, 24 July and Mariners Hotel on 25 July.

Tennis Camp director, Mitch Lake said, "I think this week of tennis is a great opportunity for participants and the public to witness high quality tennis. All my efforts are aimed towards promoting the sport on the island."
